Voters of the 31st District,
I am a candidate for State Senator of the 31st District because I believe we can do better for Ohio. There was a time when Ohio workers could find living wage jobs with benefits and they could look forward to a comfortable retirement. Today too many of these jobs are gone. Instead workers are finding part-time, service industry jobs with minimum wages and few if any benefits.
Far too many of our workers have found their retirement dreams shattered. Their retirement funds are devastated. Some find retirement plans delayed, others wonder if they will ever be able to retire.
Many young workers are paying into a Social Security System which they believe will not provide them anything in return. Additionally, Ohio’s public retirement systems are in financial trouble. Ohio’s elected officials need to make difficult decisions which address previous commitments while being fair to taxpayers.
Many Republicans have lauded their state income tax cut as a move to restore economic stability and reduce unemployment. However, a tax reduction which annually provides about 400 dollars in tax relief to the average income household while rewarding six or seven figure incomes with thousands of dollars in savings will not provide the necessary stimulus to get us back on track. We can do better!
I believe education provides the foundation for a vibrant economy. If we follow Governor Strickland’s lead, I believe we will reach the Ohio Supreme Court’s mandate in providing a thorough and efficient public education for all of Ohio’s young people.
It’s time for a change in our State Senate. I am asking for your vote in November. I believe I can make a difference.
Thank you for your consideration.
